Apple's pro video editor, Final Cut Pro, isn't free. But you can try it on your Mac before spending a single dime!
In 2026, Apple changed the way we get it: Final Cut Pro is now part of Apple Creator Studio, a subscription that also includes Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, Compressor and MainStage. And the best part: it comes with a 1-month free trial.
Heads-up: an older version of this article talked about a 90-day trial (and a trick to stretch it to 6 months). Apple's trial page no longer offers that, so we've updated everything below. ✅
Steps to get your free trial:
1. On your Mac, open Apple's official trial page and click "Try it free".
2. Sign in with your Apple Account and start your Apple Creator Studio free month. (You'll need an internet connection to subscribe.)
3. Download Final Cut Pro from the App Store. It's included in the subscription, on Mac and iPad.
4. Look for Final Cut Pro in the Applications folder or in the Launchpad, open it and start editing!

Important: the subscription renews automatically after the free month ($12.99/month or $129/year). If you just want to test it, remember to cancel before the trial ends.

Buying a new Mac or iPad? You can try Apple Creator Studio for 3 months free with the purchase (check Apple's terms).
Family Sharing: a standard Apple Creator Studio subscription can be shared with up to five other family members. Student and educator plans can't be shared.
Prefer to pay only once? Final Cut Pro for Mac is still available as a one-time purchase for $299.99 on the App Store. If you already own it, it will continue to be updated (some premium content is only for Apple Creator Studio subscribers).
